How It Works
With Solar PV
Powerwall is charged by solar during the day, when solar panels are producing more electricity than the home is consuming. Powerwall then stores that energy until the home needs it, when solar is no longer producing at night, or when the grid is offline during a power outage.
Without Solar PV
If your electricity rates vary throughout the day, Powerwall will charge when electricity costs are low and discharge when electricity costs are high, generating automatic savings. Powerwall will also provide seamless backup power by detecting grid outages.
Why It Makes Sense
For many of our solar PV customers getting a Powerwall system is the obvious next step. Families who are out during the day are especially aware that although they are generating their own clean power, they often don't get to use it themselves. A Powerwall system can help to increase the percentage of self-generated solar electricity that gets consumed within the home.
Customers can store solar electricity during the day and use it in the evening, which reduces the peak demand on the grids electricity system. That means the Manx Utilities Authority gas fuelled power station can produce less energy during that time, another step towards the energy transition to renewables and to reduce the carbon footprint of the Isle of Man.
